For Australian doctors

About pocdr.au/jobs

Doctor jobs across Australia, in one list. We read every state and territory health department’s board, most of their health services’ own boards, and the seven rural workforce agencies. Every job links to its ad, where you apply.

Who runs it

pocdr.au is run by a medical student. It isn’t affiliated with any health department, college, union or recruiter.

It’s free, and the person who runs it pays for it. There are no sponsored listings: no one pays to be on the list or to rank higher in it.

How it works

Rules, not AI. Rules we wrote in code do all the work; no AI model is involved. They read the boards and the ads, decide which jobs are for doctors and at what grade, and work out the place, the pay and the dates. We last tested the rules that judge a job from its title on 24 September 2026, against 662 titles checked against their ads: 99.55% were right, and three were wrong. Each morning we get a report on every board’s run.

When we read the boards.

Ads
In small batches every 3 hours, day and night, newest jobs first. We read each ad once. Some boards’ ads can’t be read, so their jobs show only what the board says.

Which jobs we list. We list only roles that need registration as a medical practitioner. Where we could read the ad, we checked its text for that. Where we couldn’t, the row shows what the board says. Each job rests on one of three kinds of evidence. The row shows which, and the job’s page explains it under “Why it’s listed”:

The ad
Ad requires medical registrationWe read the ad, and it names the Medical Board or medical registration. If it names a primary medical degree, a college fellowship or vocational registration instead, the row says “Ad confirms a doctor’s role”.
The board
Board lists it under Medical PositionsThe board files it under medicine. We couldn’t read the ad, or the ad doesn’t state a registration requirement.
The title
The title itselfThe title names a role only a doctor holds, such as registrar, staff specialist or VMO, so the row needs no label.

If the evidence is weaker, as with a “Clinical Director” title whose ad we haven’t read, the job waits until we read the ad. We never list a job whose ad asks for nursing, allied health or dental registration. A job on two boards appears once, from the board that listed it first, with a link to the other.

Current jobs. The list shows current jobs; choose Posted: Any time to see older ones too. A job is current until its closing date passes. A job with no closing date is current for 12 months after it was posted. A standing register of interest is always current, and so is an ad with no posting date. Older open-ended ads, which some boards leave up for years, appear only under Any time, marked “may be filled”.

Closing and removal. A job stays listed until the end of its closing day, in its own time zone, and comes off within a few hours after midnight there. It also comes off once its board stops listing it. Its page stays up and says so. An open-ended ad stays as long as its board lists it.

Pay. We show the pay the ad or the board’s listing gives, and the job’s page says which. If neither gives any, the list shows an award estimate, marked “≈” and “award”. That is the base salary for the grade under the state’s public hospital award or agreement for doctors, at the rates in force on the date shown. We choose the pay steps from the best evidence there is: an award code the employer published (such as Queensland’s L18–L24 or Victoria’s HM25), then a postgraduate year in the title (PGY3), and otherwise the whole range for the grade. The estimate leaves out on-call, overtime, penalty rates and super. VMOs, locums, private general practice, agency and leadership roles get no estimate: their pay is set outside these tables, or negotiated. An example. Staff Specialist Infectious Diseases, Ipswich, QLD, gives no pay. Its page estimates the base for Level L18 – Level L27 under the Queensland Medical Officers agreement (MOCA7), and names where the rates are published: Queensland Health — Medical officer wage rates.

The rates come from:

Sources

We read 75 job boards: every state and territory health department’s board, most of their health services’ own boards, and the seven rural workforce agencies. See every board, its current jobs and when we last read it.

We show only facts from each board and ad: the job title (without board boilerplate such as “Apply via eCredential”), the employer, the place, the type of employment, the dates, the pay, the award code and the agreement the ad names. We never copy the ad’s text. Each job’s page links to its ad, and the ad is the final word. We keep a private copy of each board listing, and of each ad once we’ve read it. That way, when we fix a rule, we can apply the fix without asking the board again. The copy is never published or shared.

Places. We find a job’s town by matching the board’s words to the GeoNames gazetteer (CC BY 4.0). Boards’ own regions, such as Western NSW, are placed by hand. When a job’s page says how rural the job is, it uses the Modified Monash category or Distribution Priority Area the ad states. If the ad states neither, it uses the town’s category from the Modified Monash Model 2023, Department of Health (CC BY), under the CC BY 2.5 AU licence. That is the town’s category, not the workplace’s: the exact address decides any incentive.

Not covered.

Private
Private hospitals, and private practices that advertise only on their own websites.
SEEK only
Ads placed only on SEEK. SEEK’s robots.txt doesn’t allow its job pages to be read. Six Victorian services recruit only there: Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Mildura Base Public Hospital, Robinvale District Health Services and Rochester and Elmore District Health Service.
Not read
A few public services: Calvary Health Care Bethlehem (its board is shared with every other Calvary service); Mallee Track Health and Community Service and West Wimmera Health Service (each board needs its own reader); and Dental Health Services Victoria (its site refuses automated requests).

Privacy

pocdr.au sets no cookies of its own and has no accounts. Cloudflare, our host, can set one for its bot checks (what it sets). We count visits with GoatCounter, which records nothing that identifies you. We count searches, but not what was searched for. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, your visit isn’t counted at all.

Your Night shift setting, your shortlist and when you last opened each list stay in your browser and are never sent. A shortlist link you share contains only its jobs. If you ask a list to email you its new jobs, we keep your address, the search and how often, nothing else; nothing is sent until you confirm, and every email’s unsubscribe link deletes it. Links to employers tell them only that you came from pocdr.au. We use an email to jobs@pocdr.au only to fix a listing or reply to you. Read the full privacy statement, including what Cloudflare keeps.

Readers
Job filled, not a doctor’s job, or pay or place wrong? Use “Tell us” at the bottom of the job’s page, or email jobs@pocdr.au with the job’s address. (Its id is the 32 letters and digits in it.)
Employers and boards
To correct your ads or take them off the list, email jobs@pocdr.au. If a board, or an employer with its own board, asks, its ads come off within a week. If your ads reach us through a state portal or an agency’s board, write to us and we’ll explain the options. We don’t offer sponsored listings yet; ask, and we’ll tell you when we do.
Board operators
Run a board we read? Email jobs@pocdr.au if you want it read less often, differently or not at all, or if you can offer a feed. What our crawler does is below.

The crawler

Its name
au-health-jobs/0.2. It’s in the user agent of every request, with a link to this section (https://pocdr.au/jobs/about/#crawler). One agency’s firewall blocks any user agent that contains a web address, so for that site the link is left out.
What it reads
The public job listings of the boards on the sources page, and each listed job’s ad, once. Nothing behind a login, and it never applies for anything. If a board’s page loads its jobs from a search service, the crawler asks that service, just as the page does. Boards whose pages are built in the browser are read with a real browser (Cloudflare Browser Rendering), under the same name.
How often
Each board’s listing once a day, from 05:00 AEST (06:00 AEDT in summer; 19:00 UTC). The largest boards again from 17:00 AEST (18:00 AEDT in summer; 07:00 UTC). Ads in small batches every 3 hours.
Its pace
Requests to each site are at least a second apart, usually two or more, and further apart if the site’s robots.txt sets a crawl delay. If a site answers 429 or 503, the crawler backs off for as long as Retry-After asks, up to a minute. A board that still fails is retried after 15 minutes, up to three times, then left until its next scheduled read. A refusal is never retried: at a 403 or a CAPTCHA the crawler stops, and asks again only at the next scheduled read.
To slow it or stop it
Email jobs@pocdr.au and name the board. We’ll slow or stop it within a week. We read each board’s robots.txt before adding the board, and the crawler stays out of whatever it disallows. The crawler doesn’t re-read robots.txt on every run, so an email takes effect sooner than a change there.
